History/Overview
The 2 Series is BMW’s entry-level car model in Canada, which arrived in 2014 as a replacement for the 1 Series.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2022, the 2 Series coupe enters its second generation, while the four-door Gran Coupe variant’s changes are limited to a styling update. Despite sharing the 2 Series name, these are different cars from a technical standpoint: coupe variants ride on a front-engine/rear-drive platform, while the Grand Coupe version shares its underpinnings with the Mini Cooper.
Last year’s M2 coupe is gone, but only temporarily; watch for it to return in a subsequent model year.
Available Trims
For 2022, the 2 Series coupe comes as the M240i, while the Gran Coupe is offered as the M235i. The former is powered by a 3.0L turbo inline six-cylinder engine, while the latter uses a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder. Both put power to the road through an eight-speed transmission and all-wheel drive.
Standard Features
The M235i Gran Coupe comes equipped with 18-inch wheels, remote engine start, a heated steering wheel, power-folding auto-dimming side mirrors, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a panoramic sunroof, heated front sport seats with power adjustments, automatic A/C, LED headlights and fog lights, digital gauges, and sport suspension.
Standard safety items include front and rear parking sensors, automatic high beams, radar cruise control, forward collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear collision prevention.
The M240i Coupe adds 19-inch wheels, engine auto stop/start, a sport differential, variable sport steering, ambient lighting, and a rear spoiler.
Key Options
You can option your M235i Gran Coupe with a premium essential package (front-seat lumbar, passive keyless entry, an interior lighting package, and a storage compartment package); to that, a premium enhanced package adds a head-up display, parking assistant, adaptive headlights, and an upgraded stereo. An M Sport Pro package stands alone with upgraded wheels, and M-branded performance add-ons.
In the M240i coupe, a premium essential package brings a sunroof, passive keyless, lumbar support, and a storage compartment package; a premium enhanced version gains adaptive headlights, and a head-up display. The coupe’s M Sport Pro pack gets light-alloy wheels, gloss black exterior trim, M seat belts, tinted headlights, and an M technology package.
Fuel Economy
BMW’s fuel consumption estimates for the 2 Series are 10.4/7.5 L/100 km (city/highway) for the M240i Coupe, and 10.4/7.8 L/100 km for M235i models.
